I was lucky enough earlier this year to be part of a close team of 4 Nail Technicians (myself, Lucy Holliday, Danielle Edgington-Gibson and Nickie Rhodes-Hill) working at the Viva La Juicy Gold Couture Perfume Launch at the Soho Hotel in London. It was a wonderful intimate day in opulent and beautifully fragrant surroundings, where ladies from the various top magazines joined us for a hour or so, sipped on champagne, ate gold encrusted Hors d’Oeuvres and were pampered with golden manicures whilst finding out more about this new luxurious fragrance from Juicy Couture. Very Gold Couture! #coutureoverdose
The Launch Venue
The Viva La Juicy Gold Couture Perfume launch was held in the sumptuous candlelit surroundings of the Crimson Bar in the Soho Hotel, London. With tiffany mood lighting, rich Moroccan hues, plush seating and romantic rose bouquets, it was the perfect ambience to launch this luxurious fragrance.
Guests were invited to partake in mouthwatering Hors d’Oeuvres that perfectly complimented the notes of the perfume, including fresh berries, vanilla fudge, golden shimmering pain au chocolats and the most amazing Caramel Vanilla milkshake I think that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Naturally everything was glistening in luxuriant golden tones synonymous of the Gold Couture bottle!
The Golden Touch
Whilst the journalists were able to appreciate the surroundings for a moment and chat to the lovely Daniella Horgan (Press Officer) and Charlie Mecklenburgh (PR) about the fragrance, we techs set about creating a golden nail manicure fit for a Bond girl! Using Gold Lightening Minx, we were able to produce striking sets of gold chrome nails akin to the Gold Couture packaging.
Viva La Juicy Gold Couture Perfume Review
So you’ve heard a bit about the official launch, but what about the actual perfume? Now I am a notoriously fussy person when it comes to perfume. I have my favourites that I wear, and depending on the occasion and my mood, they vary between Chanel Allure, Dolce & Gabbana The One and the now discontinued (I stockpiled) Dolce & Gabbana Red. These 3 fragrances have notes of Jasmine in common and I think that’s what draws me to them.
In total honesty, Viva La Juicy Gold Couture frightened me a little at first. It’s opulent bottle that would look perfect on any Parisian dressing table, coupled with it’s sexy but playful scent, made me feel perhaps I was a little too old and frumpy to be able to carry off wearing it! However, it’s a perfume that needs to warm on your skin before it can be judged. Initially when sprayed, you pick up the top note of Wildberries, followed by the Honeysuckle & Jasmine. It’s only once it’s been warmed on your skin for 5-10 minutes that the truly beautiful base notes of Sandalwood, Golden Amber, Caramel & Vanilla emerge and balance the fragrance out like a symphony.
Gold Couture is an accomplished fragrance that has managed to get the perfect balance of being feminine without being too girly, and the base notes of Sandalwood tame the top notes of Wildberries so that you just get a hint of the scents without one overpowering another. It is a definitely versatile day to night perfume that you could carry off in the boardroom with a light spritz and then continue on to a party in the evening.
Now this is an Eau de Parfum, you do not need to bathe yourself in it for it to last. A little spritz will suffice for the day, and if you are on the more sensitive side with perfumes but like the sound of the fragrance, then I would suggest misting some into the air in front of you and stepping into the mist to tone down the strength.
Rating
Despite my initial reservations on this fragrance, it’s become a firm favourite with me when applied lightly. Not too heavy and overpowering, but warmly sweet without being sickly and the Jasmine and Amber give the fragrance a lovely sophiticastion. The bottle is just stunning and with it having a golden plating on the inside of the glass, it means that it can sit beautifully on your dressing table without worried about the light degrading the fragrance.
I love the sexy, feminine versatility of Gold Couture and with all factors taken into consideration I would score it as an 8/10! Well done Juicy Couture, you have become a new addition to my favourites perfume collection. xNx
